Caleb Ramos' 2017 Jordan Trip
My name is Caleb Ramos, I am a 16 year old Sophomore at Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, Texas. This summer I have the opportunity to go to Jordan for a second time to volunteer on a humanitarian relief trip to help love and serve Syrian refugee families that have left everything behind to flee from the brutality of ISIS and the Assad regime in Syria.
The civil war in Syria is the greatest humanitarian disaster in my lifetime. In the past few years more than 11 million people have been forced to flee their homes and more than 4 million are now refugees in the neighboring countries of Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan.
I will be going to Jordan for 12 days this summer as part of a humanitarian relief team with Urban Catalyst. While in Jordan I will spend my time distributing much needed food and supplies to refugee families, helping at a school for refugee children, visiting refugees in their homes (showing them dignity, listening to their stories, and offering hope,) and doing whatever else is needed.
Last summer going to Jordan was a life changing experience for me. While there, I had the opportunity to sit in the homes of refugees, listening to their stories and hearing about the struggles they face everyday. One story that really touched my heart was a young girl who was forced to drop out of school and take a job milking goats to support her family because her father had been caught working illegally and risked being deported back to Syria if he was caught again. Her story and many others like it helped me realize that I want to be a part of making a difference in these people’s lives. I want to go back to Jordan this summer to give hope to the suffering, to help bring awareness to the plight of refugees and provide relief in any way that I can.
I need to raise $3,000 by June 1st in order to go on this trip. This money will go to cover my airfare, food, lodging and expenses in Jordan as I love and serve Syrian refugees. I am excited about this great opportunity and am very grateful for any assistance that you can give.
